This will show clients how to troubleshoot Windows Live Mail.
The first step in troubleshooting Windows Live Mail is making sure it is set to use the correct settings.
Open Windows Live mail and right-click on your email address located right above Inbox and select Properties.
Make sure the correct email address is entered and also the option "Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing" is check-marked.
Click on the Servers Tab. If your incoming mail server is a IMAP server (If your Incoming Mail server is a POP3 server bump down a picture) make sure your incoming mail (IMAP) is imap.emypeople.net. The text in Outgoing mail (SMTP) should be set to smtp.emypeople.net. Your username is your full email address and password would be the email address's password. Make sure it's set to "Log on using clear text authentication". Last of all, Check-mark the option "My server requires authentication"
If your Incoming Mail server is a POP3 server make sure your incoming mail (POP3) is pop.emypeople.net. The text in Outgoing mail (SMTP) should be set to smtp.emypeople.net. Your username is your full email address and password would be the email address's password. Make sure it's set to "Log on using clear text authentication". Last of all, Check-mark the option "My server requires authentication"
Click on the Advanced tab. The number in the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field should be set to 465 with the option below it "This server requires a secure connection" check-marked. If your incoming mail server was set to IMAP make sure the number in your Incoming Mail(IMAP) is set to 993 with the option "This server requires a secure connection" check-marked. If it was set to POP3 instead, make sure the number in your Incoming Mail(POP3) is set to 995 with the option "This server requires a secure connection" check-marked. If you want to leave a copy of the messages on the server select the option "Leave a copy of messages on server" and than checkmark the option "Remove from server when deleted from "Deleted Items". "
Press OK with the confidence that you are using the correct settings.
Tweaking Windows Live Mail to allow attachements
Click on the large blue button located in the upper left-hand corner and go to Options > Safety Options.
Select the Security tab. Uncheck-mark the option " Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus." then press OK.
If you've checked your account settings and are sure they are correct but still can't send the next thing to try is clearing your outbox. Remove ALL emails (you can save the important ones as long as they're not saved in the Outbox.) Restart Windows Live Mail, create a new message, and than try sending again.
